Live in the secret village of the original Mah Meri tribe on a hidden and secluded beach far from bustling city, and experience the simple way of life.
According to folklore, there once was a kingdom in the Malay Archipelago which was full of riches, power, and glory. However, their wealth had angered their gods and the empire crumbled into ruins. Its people left to seek shelter and forgiveness. In an attempt to conceal their identity, these "sea gypsies" maintained limited contact with outsiders, adopted the Malay language, changed the name of their tribe and even changed their own names. Today, the Mah Meri is one of the 18 recognised Orang Asli tribes in Malaysia, most of whom are known to reside in Selangor.
Lost for over 300 years, the ancestral village of these ancient “sea gypsies” has now been rediscovered on the secluded Pantai Jengkok. In this exclusive LokaLocal experience, you will take a boat ride to this secret location and stay with the sea Mah Meri. With cultural activities that let you interact with the tribe, you can get a glimpse of their everyday lives and enjoy simple pleasures amidst a breathtaking beach.
