Join us in our Malaysian batik class, discover two different methods of designing your artwork, and bring home your personalised journal.
Batik is a traditional art form that use the wax-resist method to form beautiful designs on a piece of fabric. In this experience, you will learn how to create patterns through canting (using a pen-like tool to create free form patterns) and block patterns (using our special batik blocks to form intricate designs). You will have time to design and colour in your artwork, before it is turned into a personalised product, handmade by you.
Participating in this class contributes to the livelihood of underprivileged women across Malaysia,. With your handmade souvenir, you are leaving something behind - the chance for our batik artisans to gain a sustainable income and skills.
Our artisan will share a brief history of batik and the story behind its social enterprise. After some demonstrations, you can try your hands at making your own designs through wither canting or blocking. Our local expert will then help you mix your desire color combinations, so you can bring out your creativity.
