Ecoteer House initiatives are not just for children; in 2012 we instigated the Perhentian Island Ladies Association (PILA) to engage local women in Community tourism whilst helping them to support themselves financially. The newly opened PILA restaurant offers full-time employment to 6 previous house wifes who now cook amazing food. Each week the ladies assemble to host a ‘Kuih’ making session (a traditional Malaysian cake), open to tourists and volunteers. This is a fun and informative cultural exchange and provides the members of PILA with a much needed income boost.
