Gunung Datuk, located in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan has an altitude of 884 meters (2,900.26 ft). Filled with Hill Dipterocarp forests and Upper Dipterokarp forests, there are plenty of flora on this mountain which has medical value. It is often frequented as a mountain climbing destination.

A spectacular view awaits those who are willing to take a three-hour hike up the mountain. On a clear day, you can see the whole Rembau Town from top of the mountain. If the sky is super clear, you can even enjoy the view of Malacca Straits.

Meet up at Berjaya Times Square. Proceed to starting point.


Head to Rembau towards Gunung Datuk Recreational Forest. Stop en-route for breakfast.

Upon arrival, gear up with safety briefing before hike


Our local expert will give an overview of the trails and history of the place. It holds many treasures of the natural tropical rainforests.

Reach the peak of Gunung Datuk


Enjoy the majestic views of Rembau. There's a formation of big rocks at the summit which is said to represent the footprint of the legendary warrior, Hang Tuah.

Myths state that he used to move from one place to another just by jumping from mountain to mountain.

According to the locals, this is the footprint of Hang Tuah, the legendary warrior of Malacca Sultanate.
Enjoy the view from top of the rock formation at Gunung Datuk.

Travel notes

Please bring your own water to drink because there's no 'treated' water supply along the trail. Thus, it's unnecessary to bring lots of heavy bottles of water along; one container will suffice. Suggested 2 litres must be carried for each person.

Outfit Recommendations

• Dry fit T-shirt
• Hiking pants
• Close-toed shoes

Safety notices

• Dress appropriately. Make sure other people can see you. Camouflage is not encouraged. Wear close-toed shoes. Avoid slipper and sandal.
• Coming down can be more painful (especially on the knees) than climbing up because of sore muscles and tired legs. Take it slowly and don't jam the toes into the front of the shoes.
• Bringing along muscular ache relief cream and knee/ankle supports may be helpful.
• It's better for you to do 'Cooling Down' right after the hike.
